Amer fort is a reflection of the glorious past of the dominating Kachwaha Dynasty that ruled over the region from the 12th to 18th century. Man Singh started the construction of this fort in 1592. The rugged walls of this fort may not look beautiful on the outside, but the interior is a virtual paradise with painted scenes of hunting and wars. UMAID BHAWAN PALACE
Home to Jodhpur’s royal family, the Umaid Bhawan Palace is perched high above the desert capital. As one of the world’s largest private residences, counted amongst the last great palaces of India, it was named after Maharaja Umaid Singh, the grandfather of the present Maharaja of Jodhpur, Maharaja Gaj Singh. Built between 1928 and 1943, Umaid Bhawan Palace is a magnificent piece of Rajasthan’s heritage and a symbol of new Jodhpur. Designed by the famed Edwardian architect Henry Lanchester, the golden-yellow sandstone monument set amidst 26 acres of lush gardens, was conceived on a grand scale. This fashionable art piece took 15 years to complete. The palace offers 64 grand rooms and suites in the renowned Art Deco style with 2 restaurants and a bar.
