Let’s discover what’s attracting the attention of meetings and event planners in this interview with Patty Phelps, Vice President of Sales – Texas, ACCESS Destination Services.
Q: Why have there been more inquiries about Texas lately?
A: Dallas is the 4th fastest-growing city in the U.S. which has been bringing a lot of businesses to Texas. Overall, Texas offers accessibility and a great variety of activities at a very affordable price.
Q: Why do you think more groups are coming into Texas?
A: One reason might be due to the increased number of new flights that have been added:
-At the Dallas Fort Worth airport there are two new international non- stop destinations: Rio De Janeiro and Barbados.
-At the Dallas Love Field airport Southwest Airlines is offering over 50 new non-stop flights in and out of Dallas. Virgin Airlines is offering service to New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Washington D.C., Los Cabos, Maui, Palm Springs and Portland.
Q: Anything new with hotels and other venues in Texas?
A: The Hilton Anatole is renovating and will be opening a resort pool complex in July 2016.
A new Westin Dallas Downtown has opened up in Downtown Dallas with 326 guest rooms, and 32,000 square feet of meeting space.
A new venue called “The Star” is opening in August 2016 which is the practice field for the Dallas Cowboys football team and which also serves as an indoor and outdoor meeting space. A second Calatrava Bridge is being completed over the Trinity River.
Q: What are some of the most popular activities for incentives?
A: Events at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys football team, continues to be the most popular and high-end activity in Dallas.
Other popular activities include: skeet and target shooting, horseback–riding, and ranch parties.
Q: Are clients requesting any luxurious, high-end activities?
A: Yes. Clients are requesting spa treatments, behind-the- scenes personal shoppers, jean and steamed hat bars, and private meetings with footballs players and their families.
