Las Vegas leads the most recent Destination Index in the US.

What kind of products are your clients requesting with their meetings? Why has Las Vegas been more popular lately?

Let’s discover what’s attracting the attention of meetings and event planners in this interview with Jennifer Miller, DMCP—Regional President, Las Vegas, ACCESS Destination Services.

Q: Why do you think Las Vegas has been more popular lately?
A: In the past year, there have been many new developments solidifying Las Vegas as a top destination for incentives and meetings alike. Las Vegas is becoming more and more diverse in their offerings; in fact, it’s not just focusing on the casinos and gambling aspect, but continuing the trend of developing retail and other non-gaming options for consumers.

Q: Are there any new flights/connections that are bringing more groups to Las Vegas?
A:
In October 2015, Hainan Airlines applied to the CAAC for traffic rights between Beijing and Las Vegas. Three weekly flights will begin in September 2016, using Boeing 787-8 aircraft. This will become McCarran’s first nonstop link to China and its second to Asia, after Korean Air’s flights to Seoul. Norwegian Air Shuttle, a popular low-cost international carrier, made its Las Vegas debut in fall 2015 with nonstop flights to and from Denmark and Sweden.

Q: What else is new in Las Vegas this year?
A:
Topgolf Las Vegas is a new driving range facility located at MGM Grand. It has four levels with VIP booths, a stage for entertainment, and microchips in the balls. Also, Wynn recently opened a new circle bar with members only portion.

Q: Are groups showing any interest in ‘unknown venues’?
A:
Many of our clients want to explore Las Vegas off the strip now. We have a lot of great outdoor activities like Tomcar racing, Pink Jeep Tours, Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon Driving Experience at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and some indoor activities that you won’t find elsewhere. A good example of this would be the Machine Gun Experience, where you get to learn to hold and fire your own machine gun. Also, Downtown Vegas, which is also known as Fremont Street or the Original Vegas, has great restaurants, activities and venues.

Q: What kind of products/activities are your clients requesting with their meetings?
A:
Lots of interactive entertainment. Las Vegas hosts numerous fantastic shows, a lot of world class performers reside here and that allow us to provide some of the top performers for corporate events. Cirque performers are still at the top of many of our clients lists because there is no end to the excitement and amazement they bring to guests with their extreme talent.
