Erica Hegarty, Head of Sales in Asia, share her thoughts about the most popular destinations for meetings and events in Asian destinations this month.

Q: Why do you think India, Philippines and Singapore are top this month?

A: Each destination offers different experience and advantages to be considered as top destinations in Asia.
Singapore is definitely one of the top destination for MICE due to great infrastructure (airport facility, good transportation service etc), easy access from most countries as Asia’s hub, cultural diversity from different race, great shopping, entertainment, cleanness and safety.

India has significant growth in tourism and MICE sector and given the country’s stage of development, the country offers quite good air transport and fairly reasonable ground transport infrastructure. some of the key advantages of India for MICE and tourism sector are price competitiveness and high natural and cultural resources which attracts both domestic and international clients from various industries.

As Asia’s pioneer in conventions, Philippines is one of the fastest growing destinations for MICE in the region.

Manilla, Philippine’s capital city, is equipped with some of the best convention spaces and meeting facilities in Asia such as PICC which made history as Asia’s first convention centre and new SMX is another world-class venue to organise from corporate functions to international exhibitions and industry convention/trade events.

Each year, more MICE groups are attracted by cost competitiveness, great shopping and entertainment, and Philippines has been successfully showcasing existing/new MICE infrastructure in multiple destinations for last few years.

Q: What type of clients might be more interested on the TOP destinations below?

A: Singapore and Malaysia are definitely considered highly by both domestic and international corporate clients for meetings and incentives as well as non-profit and association sectors. India is still stronger in FIT travelers but have significant growth in MICE business in some of major cities.

Q: Besides the ones below, which destinations do you think are on the rise and will be interesting to consider for meetings, incentives or events in the next months?
A: Malaysia is always a good bet: easy to reach, logistics is highly streamlined; people, equipment and exhibition items can be moved around smoothly and often offers competitive price for food, accommodation and transportation together with extensive choice of MICE venues and based on these advantages, there are numerous mega events are held here such as the Malaysia International Furniture Fair, Foodex Asia, and the Medical Scientific Exhibition & Conference and attracts more MICE events each year.

Then, Indonesia, China (including HK) and Thailand are definitely some of key destinations in Asia Pacific.
