Expo 2010 Shanghai improves City's Infrastructure

Half way through its short six month lifespan, the Shanghai Expo is attracting considerable attention for China's most cosmopolitan city, creating even more of a buzz, yet achieving unrecognisable improvements in the city's infrastructure. Gone are the traffic problems of two years ago, with transfer times from the airport reduced to 45 minutes and new tunnels and roads reducing inner city transfer times to a very pleasant duration.

Whilst the Expo is undoubtedly a busy event, Pacific World has special access to several of the pavillions, which is a great benefit for clients  to experience this modern wonderland of a global village, without the queues! So there is still time to experience this modern marvel.

Hotels in the city are enjoying high occupancy and rates to match but a flurry of wonderful hotels continues to open to meet with the demand of this increasingly popular city for corporate meetings and events. Prior to the Pacific World marketing meeting held in Beijing this year, a number of our executives got to visit some of China's new hotspots. In Shanghai, the theme amongst new properties is art deco elegance, recalling the era of the city's first heyday in the twenties and thirties, which is also a perfect theme for gala evenings as an event highlight. The Peninsula, the Fairmont Peace Hotel and the Langham Yangtse are all classic examples of the trend, presenting a broad range of pricing options to suit any budget on the Puxi side of the city, either on or close to the recently renovated Bund area.

In Pudong, the Ritz-Carlton Shanghai opened just days ago and offers 285 rooms, 1700 square metres of meeting space and easy access to the Shanghai New International Expo Center which will remain in place once the Expo closes in October.

More about the Expo...

A lavish fireworks display on the eve of its opening on May 1st celebrated the launch of the Shanghai World Expo in China, which will run from 1st May - 31st October 2010.

Pacific World China was delighted to announce its official partnership with the USA pavillion, sponsoring dedicated event services throughout the six month period.

China showcased its outstanding ability to deliver large-scale global events with the success of the Beijing Olympics in 2008, and off the back of that success, it  won the prestigious World Expo for 2010.

The theme of the exposition will be "Better City – Better Life" and signifies Shanghai's new status in 21st Century as a major economical and cultural centre. The Expo will be the first registered World Exposition in a developing country and it is expected to generate the largest number of visitors in the history of the world's fairs, anticipating a total of 70 million visitors in five months, with a total of 200 exhibiting countries on board.

The Expo site will take up a 5.2 square kilometer area is located right in the heart of the city on the banks of the Huangpu River. Major construction of new public transport links has been implemented, which will see important improvements to the city’s infrastructure.

Following the Expo, the China Pavillion will remain in place and will become a new performance centre for Shanghai, able to accommodate audiences of up to 18,000.
